THE WR!TERS@WORK CURRICULUM
Your child’s learning is at the heart of all we do
WR!TERS@WORK CURRICULUM GOALS
The first goal of the curriculum is to enable W@W students to write relevant, creative and effective compositions and essays in their schools. Next, the curriculum is designed to empower W@W students to analyse and answer English Language questions in school and national examinations. The final goal of the curriculum is to equip W@W students the ability to express themselves and communicate their opinions in oral presentations and examinations.
WR!TERS@WORK PRIMARY AND SECONDARY STUDENTS’ NEEDS
WR!TERS@WORK Primary and Secondary Curriculum is designed with the learning needs of students in mind. We take into account the necessities of language that a student has to know to be effective and functional, the current level of language of the student and the engaging elements that are important to students’ learning.
THE EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT IN SINGAPORE
At WR!TERS@WORK, we recognise that the engagement of the student is closely tied to the motivation of the student. This is a factor considered through the WR!TERS@WORK Primary and Secondary curriculum’s examination of the students’ environment in the Singapore education system.
The student’s motivation and individual goals are nurtured towards being both functional in the language and effective writers to excel in school assessments and national examinations.
THE PRINCIPLES OF WR!TERS@WORK PRIMARY AND SECONDARY CURRICULUM
To accomplish the goals of empowering our students, our curriculum considers the principles of language acquisition and the nature of the English language.
Established in 2012, WR!TERS@WORK team of curriculum writers and teachers work closely to finetune and revolutionize the curriculum annually. Our dynamic team works all year round to ensure that WR!TERS@WORK curriculum is relevant to the learning needs of our Primary and Secondary students as they grow in a constantly evolving education landscape.
WR!TERS@WORK Primary and Secondary curriculum is designed to allow teachers to work in collaboration with parents and students to help them master the English Language for life.
We place your child at the heart of all we do – this is a promise we give to every student who walk into our classrooms. Full marks in life is truly possible.
WR!TERS@WORK SPIRAL CURRICULUM MODEL
The WR!TERS@WORK curriculum is designed to guide the students to climb upwards in their mastery of English Language – auditory, oral and written.
As the student progresses, both the Primary and Secondary curriculum’s spiral structure enables the student to revisit learning from previous lessons, build upon knowledge previously gained and learn new skills at the same time. Phrase and vocabulary transfer, plot adaptation, plot organization and writing practices are present in every lesson, allowing the student to revisit and reinforce a variety of skills at the same time.
Besides that, grammar rules acquisition and application, vocabulary expansion, sentence synthesis and transformation, oral presentation skills, critical reading and understanding for comprehension are included in the curriculum to ensure that the student is trained and given ample exposure to internalize important language skills.
Teachers are given the freedom to adapt the learning objectives of each classroom to suit the students’ diverse learning needs. In addition to providing tools to students for use in school, such as plot graphic organizers and mnemonics for planning stories, students are taught the specific requirements for different genres of texts and writing tasks directly applicable to their school curricula.
Lessons integrate real-world and relevant writing stimulus across various media to allow the student to produce pieces that reflect maturity and awareness of current events. This knowledge is woven into the plots of their compositions and essays, which can then be adapted to a variety of assessment questions presented by schools and national examinations.
THE WR!TERS@WORK ASSESSMENT – MARKING AND GRADING
The WR!TERS@WORK Primary and Secondary curriculum also provides holistic and diagnostic assessments through weekly in-house quizzes, timely assessments and examinations to allow parents, teachers and the student to identify strengths and weaknesses and take appropriate steps to modify their learning.
