Why choose WRITERS AT WORK?

Parents seeking the best English tuition for Primary 1 in Singapore want more than worksheets. Here is what makes WRITERS AT WORK distinct in English enrichment for Primary 1.

English Writing and Enrichment Centre in Singapore

Every Primary 1 lesson is built around a measurable skill: a sharper sentence, a clearer story arc, a stronger oral response. Your child carries those skills from class to home, where you see the progress in their writing, the books they pick up, and the joy they take in English.

STORYBANKING® is a fun, structured way for Primary 1 children to discover ideas, grow their vocabulary and feel confident sharing stories. From the very first lesson, your child has plenty to draw on for picture compositions, Show-and-Tell and everyday classroom conversations.

Our Primary 1 teachers are regularly trained and aligned through in-house coaching, so every lesson is delivered with consistency and rigour. They understand how English is commonly assessed in MOE schools, and they teach your child the habits needed to strengthen writing, comprehension and oral confidence from Primary 1 onwards.

For 14 years, WRITERS AT WORK students have achieved good results in composition, essay and oral exams across Singapore's top schools. That system starts in Primary 1, where your child learns to plan, write and speak with the same clarity that defines our PSLE and O-Level graduates.

Building Academic Strength

Across our Primary 1 English tuition lessons, your child develops the skills below, grouped by curriculum area. Each one is built up gently in a supportive small-group setting, becoming a habit your child can carry into future assessments and beyond.

Paper 1 – Composition Writing Core Skills

Interpretation of Question
Interpretation of Question
Your child learns a simple decoding routine for P1 prompts and picture sets, so every composition stays on topic and answers what the question actually asks.
Story Plotting
Story Plotting
Your child learns to turn a picture prompt into a 3-part beginning-middle-end plan, so first drafts already have direction and a clear story arc.
Sequential Logical Thinking
Sequential Logical Thinking
Your child learns to arrange ideas in a logical order, so each sentence flows naturally into the next and their writing tells a clear, complete story.
Story Intricacies
Story Intricacies
Drawing from their STORYBANKING® collection, your child learns to add the small details that lift a P1 composition: a character feeling, a setting cue, a sensory line.
Increase Phrases Bank

Through STORYBANKING®, your child collects vivid, age-appropriate phrases and learns to deploy them accurately in P1 compositions and oral responses.

Paper 2 and Oral – English Core Skills

Sharpen Grammar Rules

Expand Their Phrase Bank
Expand Their Phrase Bank
Your child builds a personal phrase and vocabulary bank through words taught in sentence context, not isolation, so they can use language accurately across Paper 2 questions, compositions and oral responses.
Develop Critical Thinking Skills
Develop Critical Thinking Skills
Your child learns to read P1 comprehension passages with focus, identify keywords, and locate the exact phrase that answers each question with a method, not a guess.
Speak with Confidence
Speak with Confidence
Your child practises Show-and-Tell, reading aloud and conversation in small-group settings, growing into the pacing, eye contact and expression of a confident, young speaker.

In Learning,
Early Starts Matter

The skills your child practises in Primary 1 do not stay in Primary 1. They become the writing instincts, vocabulary range and oral confidence that show up in P3 weighted assessments, PSLE oral and every composition in between. The Primary 1 Comprehensive English enrichment is where that work begins, with two in three WRITERS AT WORK PSLE graduates going on to score AL1 to AL2. Enrol your child today.

Frequently Asked Questions About Primary 1 English Tuition

Three reasons: a 14-year track record of full marks across composition, essay and oral exams; the proprietary STORYBANKING® methodology that builds your child’s idea bank from day one; and rigorously trained teachers calibrated through ongoing in-house programmes. The result is structured, exam-mapped Primary 1 English tuition that delivers measurable progress and long-term performance.

STORYBANKING® is a fun, structured way for Primary 1 children to discover ideas, grow their vocabulary and feel confident sharing stories. From the very first lesson, your child has plenty to draw on for picture compositions, Show-and-Tell and everyday classroom conversations.

Many parents start at the beginning of the school year, when the gap between pre-primary and primary expectations becomes visible. Others enrol mid-year, after their child’s teacher highlights areas that may need more support, such as reading, writing, spelling, or classroom confidence. Both timings can work well. Our curriculum meets your child at their current level and helps them build the skills they need to progress confidently through P1.

Our Primary 1 Comprehensive English Programme is priced at a single, fixed rate across all P1 classes. For the latest figures, please visit our pricing page or contact our admissions team. We are happy to walk you through what is included before you decide.

Yes. Our English enrichment programme is designed for both struggling and high-performing students. For advanced P1 children, lessons stretch their writing voice, deepen vocabulary through STORYBANKING®, and prepare them earlier for the structured demands of P2 and beyond. The goal is sustained excellence, not catch-up, and our PSLE outcomes show how that early stretch compounds.

Each class is a 2-hour lesson.  Lessons are offered across our Singapore centres, both in-person and online where applicable. Visit our Locations page or contact our team for the schedule at your nearest branch.

You will see the change in three places: school assignments, written work returned by our teachers with detailed feedback, and your child’s growing willingness to write and speak unprompted. Beyond that, our teachers communicate progress with parents directly, so you always know which skills your child has mastered and which we are working on next.

Yes. The curriculum is built around the MOE Primary 1 English structure: Paper 1 Composition, Paper 2 Language Use and Comprehension, and Oral Reading and Conversation. We update lesson content as MOE expectations evolve, so your child trains on what schools currently mark, not on outdated material.
