Our Primary 5 curriculum integrates creative writing for primary school with technical language skills and structured oral preparation, helping students build confidence in the key PSLE English areas covered in this programme, including Writing, Paper 2 and Oral Communication.
Paper 4 tests reading aloud, stimulus-based conversation and the ability to express ideas clearly. P5 students build content knowledge across common oral themes, practise structured response frameworks, and rehearse pacing and tone. Composition Writing: Your child will learn to craft well-structured narratives with engaging openings, layered plot development and resolutions that earn their ending, applying STORYBANKING® to bring original ideas to the page.
Situational Writing: P5 students practise writing various texts such as articles, letters, reports and emails tailoring the style, tone and register to suit specific audiences and contexts.
Plot Design and Story Structure: Through guided modelling and independent writing, your child develops the structural instinct to plan before writing and produce compositions that are more aligned with PSLE writing expectations.
Grammar: Your child drills sentence structure, tenses, punctuation and verb usage to PSLE precision, building the accuracy Paper 2 rewards across every question type.
Vocabulary: P5 students expand vocabulary thematically and contextually, so language choices fit the meaning, tone and register the question demands.
Grammar Cloze and Editing: Students learn to identify and correct errors at speed, sharpening the attention to detail that makes the difference between a near-correct answer and a marked one.
Comprehension Cloze: Your child reads for context, anticipates word forms, and applies vocabulary precisely to fill gaps within passages.
Synthesis and Transformation: P5 students practise paraphrasing and restructuring sentences while preserving meaning, a consistently high-mark skill at PSLE.
Comprehension Open-ended: Your child works on inference, vocabulary-in-context, and structured answering frameworks for both short-response and longer-response questions.
Reading Aloud: Students practise pace, pronunciation, intonation and expression on PSLE-style passages, building the fluency examiners reward.
