Our Primary 4 Comprehensive English Curriculum: Connecting Language Mastery with Examination Skills
Primary 4 marks the first year of focused PSLE preparation, and the bar is higher: examinations begin to test for sharper thinking, stronger writing structure and more articulate expression than at lower primary. Students step up from the Primary 3 composition format of three interconnected pictures with helping words to the PSLE format of three distinct pictures without helping words, which calls for deliberation in the choosing process and thoughtful, articulate descriptions.
The 2025 update to the PSLE Oral examination reflected this same shift in expectations, now comprising 40 marks up from the original 30.
WRITERS AT WORK prepares students with a comprehensive tuition programme focusing on:
For the full curriculum details:
Every Primary 4 lesson has a clear outcome tied to a school assessment or PSLE skill. Your child applies what they learn directly to composition, comprehension and oral practice, so progress shows up in structure, content and marks.
STORYBANKING® equips Primary 4 students with a personal library of plot ideas, vocabulary and proven examples. Instead of freezing at the PSLE format of three distinct pictures, your child learns to pick one, two or three pictures purposefully and develop a narrative with confidence.
The WRITERS AT WORK teaching team comprises highly qualified educators who undergo a rigorous 3-month in-house training programme to thoroughly master the WRITERS AT WORK pedagogy, coached against high standards and aligned to MOE exam requirements. They mentor your child through the Primary 3 to Primary 4 transition with consistency, and understand exactly how markers award marks.
For 14 years, students from top schools in Singapore have achieved full marks for composition, essay and oral examinations under our system. 2 in 3 WRITERS AT WORK PSLE graduates achieve AL1 to AL2, giving parents real confidence in long-term outcomes.

Our curriculum offers a balanced approach based on the current PSLE components. It is designed to develop both writing and comprehension skills, empowering students to tackle diverse exam formats with confidence.
The programme includes:
Paper 2 demands precision across multiple components. Students develop accuracy and articulation at the Primary 4 level, preparing for exam formats such as Vocabulary Cloze, Editing, Synthesis and Transformation, and Comprehension.
Oral Communications carries more weight under the PSLE 2025 changes. Primary 4 students prepare using stimulus-based conversations, real picture stimulus (replacing traditional posters and advertisements) , and reading-aloud fluency drills. The result is a child who speaks with clarity, confidence and purpose.
Our Primary 4 English curriculum is designed to build essential skills for both creative expression and language accuracy. These skills are reinforced throughout the programme, allowing students to grow and refine their abilities.

If your child is particularly weak in composition writing, you can opt for our specialised Primary 4 English Composition Programme alongside the comprehensive curriculum for targeted help.
Trusted by thousands of Singaporean families, WRITERS AT WORK welcomes new students at any point during the year.
