This September, our Holiday Program Singapore introduces level-specific courses designed to give students a final boost before the PSLE English Paper in September. Whether your child needs to build stronger story flow, sharpen vocabulary use, or improve content development, focused support can make a real difference. At this critical stage, what matters most is not the quantity of practice but the quality of strategies students use in their writing.
Primary 6 PSLE Composition Writing Intensive Crash Course: Composition-Focused
This intensive crash course is crafted specifically for Primary 6 students who want to strengthen their performance in Composition Writing ahead of the PSLE. Instead of writing full compositions from scratch, students spend three focused sessions learning how to plan effectively, choose the right story strategy, and adjust ideas based on the exam prompt.
Through our WRITERS AT WORK Signature “STORYBANKING®” strategy, students explore ten highly adaptable stories that can be applied to a wide range of common PSLE themes. Each story includes a complete planning framework, helping students unpack the question, identify the most relevant story idea, and refine it to fit the given context. This approach helps students overcome the common problem of “blank page paralysis” and gives them a ready set of tools to face any composition question with confidence.
Across the three days, students will:
• Practise intensive composition planning drills under timed conditions
• Learn to structure their content clearly and reflect meaningfully on the story’s message
• Study model scripts and apply advanced vocabulary to elevate their writing
⚠️ Please note that this programme does not cover Situational Writing or Paper 2 components. Parents who wish to support those areas can consider our separate Paper 2 and Situational Writing programme for P5–P6 students.
Need Help with Situational Writing or Paper 2? Here’s the Right Course
While our Composition Writing Intensive Sept Holiday ProgramCrash Course focuses specifically on Continuous Writing, students aiming to improve their overall PSLE English performance often need support in other core components as well. That’s why we offer a separate 5-Day Holiday Program tailored for Primary 5 and 6 students, covering both Situational Writing and Paper 2.
This programme (Primary 5 & 6 Paper 2 + Situational Writing) is structured to tackle each major component of the English exam in a focused, day-by-day format:
• Day 1: Situational Writing
Learn how to write formal and informal pieces with the correct tone, format, and purpose.
• Day 2: Grammar
Build grammatical accuracy through targeted drills and error correction strategies.
• Day 3: Comprehension Cloze
Strengthen contextual understanding and vocabulary application for cloze passages.
• Day 4: Synthesis & Transformation
Master sentence manipulation and combining techniques frequently tested in Paper 2.
• Day 5: Comprehension Open-ended
Practise reading closely, identifying key points, and answering with clarity and precision.
This 5-day course is ideal for students who want a comprehensive brush-up before PSLE. Whether your child needs help with formal writing formats, struggles with grammar rules, or lacks confidence in comprehension, this programme offers structured and exam-aligned preparation.
From Good to Great: How We Train PSLE Composition Scorers
Scoring well in PSLE English Composition is not just about grammar or neat handwriting—it requires depth of content, narrative structure, and thoughtful reflection. Many Primary 6 students write decent stories, but what separates a good script from an AL1-level composition lies in how well the story is planned, developed, and thematically aligned.
At WRITERS AT WORK, we train students to move beyond basic storytelling by focusing on three essential areas:
1. Strategic Story Planning
Students are taught to plan with purpose. Using our Signature PSLE StoryBank, they learn how to match the right story to different question types, adapt details to fit specific prompts, and ensure their plot delivers clear narrative progression.
2. Emotional Development
A top-scoring script is not just logical—it resonates. We guide students in adding emotional weight to their stories, helping characters reflect on their experiences and reveal growth or values in a natural, impactful way.
3. Thematic Layering
PSLE compositions are often centred on familiar themes such as kindness, resilience, or honesty. Our lessons help students weave these themes meaningfully into their stories, without being overly obvious or moralising.
This approach transforms how students think and write. They are no longer writing “just another story”—they are writing with clarity, intention, and a sense of audience. And this makes all the difference when it comes to scoring distinctions in Paper 1.
