Blackout

by Bryan Tan Jun En, Fairfield Methodist School (Primary)

“Nooo…! This is the best part!” I shrieked as I curled my fingers into a fist. I was hopping mad. I stamped my feet in frustration as I ranted and raved. My sister was startled by the sudden blackout and dropped her toys. She broke into sobs which escalated into wails, “Mama, I am scared!” Mother shuffled her feet cautiously to my sister and lifted her into her arms. I tried to compose myself as I scanned the surroundings. My eyes moved jerkily around the entire house. I could barely see except for the sliver of moonlight seeping through a small gap in the window.
My eyes were beginning to adjust to the darkness. Only dark silhouettes of a variety of shapes could be seen.
