1. What Questions Should I Ask During a Secondary School Open House?
When attending an open house, go beyond the brochures! Ask about the school’s teaching style, support systems for students, subject combinations, CCA opportunities, and how they help students transition from primary to secondary school. Questions like “How does your school support students who need help with English?” or “What does a typical school day look like?” can give great insight.

2. How Do I Know If a School Is the Right Fit for My Child?
Fit isn’t just about academic results. It’s also about culture, distance, workload, and your child’s interests. Take note of your child’s reactions during open house visits — do they feel excited, curious, or intimidated? These feelings matter. Also, ask about the school’s support for students who are adjusting academically, especially in English, as every subject (except Mother Tongue) is taught in English.
3. When Should I Start Preparing My Child for Secondary School?
Preparation can start even before PSLE. Visiting open houses in Primary 5 or early Primary 6 helps students visualise their future and stay motivated. In terms of academics, subjects like English require long-term skill building, so it’s never too early to strengthen weak areas.
