Why choose WRITERS AT WORK for Secondary English Tuition?

For parents weighing the best English tuition for secondary students, WRITERS AT WORK offers a programme built around four pillars that consistently produce results across the levels of Secondary 1 through 4.

Every English lesson at WRITERS AT WORK is built around a measurable skill: a sharper thesis, a tighter argument, a stronger oral response. We track progress essay by essay and grade by grade, and the data shows it: 90% of our secondary students see grade improvements.

STORYBANKING® gives students a personalised bank of essay structures, persuasive techniques, topic-specific data and current-affairs references they can deploy across all 7 essay genres tested from Secondary 1 to Secondary 4. The blank page disappears; what replaces it is method and material.

Our secondary teachers are trained in-house on the STORYBANKING® methodology and O-Level English standards. They mark thousands of secondary English essays every year and return work with line-by-line written feedback, so your child knows exactly what shifted a grade and what is still to fix.

90% of WRITERS AT WORK secondary students see grade improvements during their time with us. This is the headline outcome the programme is calibrated to deliver, every essay, every term.

How Our Secondary English Programme Works

Primary 4 English Tuition
Every secondary student at WRITERS AT WORK moves through the same four-step cycle, lesson after lesson. The structure is what compounds improvement across Secondary 1 to Secondary 4, and what produces the 3-grade gains we are known for.

Step 1: Diagnose Strengths and Gaps

Before any new content goes in, our teachers assess where your child stands across writing, comprehension, listening and oral. They identify the specific skills that are pulling grades down and the ones already producing distinctions, then build a personalised improvement plan tailored to your child’s level, school and target outcome.

Step 2: Build the Idea Bank with STORYBANKING®

Students develop a personalised STORYBANKING® collection: essay structures, persuasive techniques, topic-specific data, current-affairs references and ready-to-deploy phrases organised across all 7 essay genres tested at Sec 1-4. Over time, the bank grows into a private library that students can reach for under exam pressure.

Step 3: Practise Across Key O-Level English Components

Structured practice runs across the core components of O-Level English: Writing, Comprehension and Oral. Sessions are timed, exam-style and progressively scaled, so the student enters the real paper having already sat the conditions many times over.

Step 4: Targeted Feedback and Refinement

Every essay comes back with line-by-line markings and component-specific feedback: where the argument lost weight, where the vocabulary worked, what to apply next time. The student refines, re-applies and submits the next piece sharper than the last. The cycle repeats until exam-ready habits are locked in.

Frequently Asked Questions About Secondary English Tuition Programmes

WRITERS AT WORK is widely recommended as a leading secondary English tuition centre in Singapore, with a 14-year track record of full marks across composition, essay and oral exams, the proprietary STORYBANKING® methodology, and rigorously trained in-house teachers. 90% of our secondary students see grade improvements during their time with us.
Yes. Our secondary programme covers Writing, Comprehension and Oral – each taught with specific skills, frameworks and exam-style practice, and reinforced through line-by-line teacher feedback so your child improves measurably across every component.
Yes. We have IP and IB students in our classes and they benefit strongly from the training. The core skills we develop – analytical reading, structured writing, persuasive argumentation and oral communication – are directly transferable across tracks. STORYBANKING® in particular gives IP and IB students a systematic approach to building and organising ideas that strengthens their academic writing regardless of the pathway they are on. If your child is on the IP or IB track and looking to sharpen their English skills, our programme is well worth considering.
STORYBANKING® is our proprietary methodology that helps secondary students build a personalised bank of essay structures, persuasive techniques, topic-specific data and current-affairs references for the 7 essay genres tested from Secondary 1 through 4. Instead of writing each essay from a blank page, students draw from a growing library of method and material, so essays come together faster, sharper and with a consistent voice.

Our Secondary English Programme runs as a 2-hour lesson each week. Fees per 4 lessons (GST included) are $501.40 for Secondary 1 & 2, and $545.00 for Secondary 3 & 4. For class schedules and to register, visit our course fees page or contact our admissions team.

WRITERS AT WORK runs secondary English classes at eight centres across Singapore: Clementi, Bukit Timah, Ang Mo Kio, Marine Parade, Tampines, Hougang, Tiong Bahru and Bishan. Online classes are also offered for selected schedules.
You will see the change in three places: school grades on continual assessments and end-of-year exams, the line-by-line teacher feedback your child receives on every essay, and the depth of their STORYBANKING® bank as it builds up term by term. Our teachers also communicate progress directly with parents.
Yes. Many of our secondary students join without prior primary English tuition, and our programme is structured to rebuild foundations alongside introducing secondary-level skills. Whether your child starts at Secondary 1, 2, 3 or 4, the STORYBANKING® methodology and exam-mapped practice produce meaningful improvement. Earlier is generally better, but the right starting point is the one you decide to take.
